Birthday dinner. They had just won a TV5 Best prime rib contest, so we decide to celebrate there. Arrived to a dirty table. The hostess (owner) just sort of brushed the crumbs off. Server was friendly. Dinner took a LONG time to arrive at our table. Prime rib was just OK. It used to be outstanding. My wife's stuffed flounder was fine. Good brussel spouts, but the gravy on my mashed potatoes was just a gelatinous goo. All corn starch. Used to be fairly regular customers. Probably was our last visit.

We had open faced sandwich and the Philly. Excellent food that you could tell took time to make. Menu was very diverse and huge portions. Great find!! Will be back for sure.

Outside: Part of a flea bag motel with an out dated boat house motif Inside: Outdated dark boat house Service: Lacking all service Food: No lack of choices(kind of scary) all frozen and nothing fresh Cost: Fair for the fare We have have been to this place a couple of times and would probably have gone back if it were not for the horrible service we experienced. We were there for a late dinner knowing what we were in for. We did not order any type of seafood or anything that has a small shelf life. We got our bill and payed the waitress with a 20% tip. Then... We got our bank statement and a double bill for the same amount on the same night at the same place. Mistakes happen. We called for a refund of our money. The manager could not do anything about it, and they would have to call us. We met with the owner and our bank statement. She refused to do anything about it. Long story short we had to contest it with our bank, and fight the $30 charge. Weeks later we got our money back. So of you choose to go here order something with a long self life. The choices are way too abundant for anything fresh. Most importantly: TAKE CASH!!!!

It wouldn't be a trip home to Bay City without a couple meals at Duece's Char House. This Mom and Pop restaurant has been there for years, but the food quality has jumped up several notches since Duece bought it two years ago. The menu is traditional American meals with a splash of Mexican choices. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Entrees come with a little surprise serving of cheese spread and a liver pate. In the past two weeks, I've had a big and tasty Mushroom Swiss Burger and the Lake Michigan Perch dinner. Loved them both. Another family favorite is the 14+ item salad bar with things like peas & peanuts salad, homemade potato salad, beets, pastas and more. They had house-made fresh Strawberry pie and lemon pie the day I was there. The new owners are working on food quality, so be gentle and overlook the tired decor that the previous owner really let go. Have some good food at a family run place and support a local business owner instead of a national chain.

Okay, it's not new, but it is good. Any of the fish on the lenten specials are great. I highly recommend the perch. The salad bar is limited, but what is there is fresh, and tasty. You will be very satisfied with any of the burgers, but if you want to splurge, get the prime rib. You will not be disappointed. Would have considered 5 stars if the hotel which is adjacent wasn't quite so creepy.

Our visit to Char House was definitely not the 5-star experience of the other review. The salad bar was OK, it had the basics and quite a few pasta salads to choose from and the garlic bread with cheese spread was oddly good but the garlic bread wasn't very good without the cheese spread. The french onion soup was just OK as well, it didn't have hardly any onions and was overloaded with croutons, but it wasn't overly salty which I appreciated. However, the main dishes left my husband and I quite disappointed. My husband ordered the NY strip which was tough, rubbery and had no flavor. The french fries were also very dry and had no flavor. I ordered the broiled snapper which was a huge portion and pretty good, but my side of broccoli was mushy and watery. For the price, I would have hoped for better. This is yet another eatery in Bay City that we won't be visiting again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
